As a member of Motley Rice’s aviation practice group, Jim Brauchle represents victims and aviation disasters and negligence by the airline industry. He is currently working on several aviation cases, including litigation involving the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and the Hudson River mid-air collision that took the lives of nine on August 8, 2009.
Jim has extensive courtroom experience in a broad array of matters and has handled civil litigation, domestic litigation and criminal defense from pre-trial practice through trial, post-trial motions and appeals. A practicing plaintiffs’ lawyer for nearly a decade, his experience includes legal research, analysis, preparation, drafting, negotiation, and trial and both bench and jury trials. Jim has represented clients in the U.S. District Court, SC Supreme Court, SC Court of Appeals, Court of Common Pleas, Court of General Sessions, Magistrate and Municipal Court.
Prior to becoming to a lawyer, Jim served as an navigator in the United States Air Force from 1991-2001 and brings years of flying experience, leadership skills and knowledge of the aviation industry to his litigation work. He was one of only five people in the entire Air Force simultaneously qualified as a C-141 Special Operations navigator, flight instructor and examiner and was often selected to fly high visibility missions, both in the United States and abroad. Additionally, he was hand-selected to brief and demonstrate special operations capabilities to the Air Mobility Command’s Director of Operations and represented the 437th Air Wing at RODEO 1996, the United States Air Force’s airlift flying competition.
Jim is a member of the South Carolina Association for Justice and the American Association for Justice.
