Denture Cream Lawyer
Motley Rice is litigating cases involving individuals who have suffered neurological problems, including peripheral neuropathy (damage to nerves of the peripheral nervous system), that may have been caused by exposure to excess levels of zinc in denture creams such as Poligrip®, Super Poligrip® and Fixodent.® The manufacturers of Poligrip, Super Poligrip and Fixodent, GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) and Procter & Gamble, allegedly failed to disclose the potential risks associated with denture creams, and research has shown that excessive use of these products may create a copper deficiency in the human body that can lead to serious health problems.

Denture Cream Side Effects
Excessive use of denture creams like Fixodent, Poligrip and Super Poligrip can result in toxic levels of zinc exposure that have been linked to peripheral neuropathy. Read a denture cream user’s story. Other side effects associated with potential denture cream poisoning include:
- Difficulty walking
- Instability and poor balance
- Loss of ability to move arms, hands, legs or feet
- Loss of sensation
- Loss of strength
- Numbness or tingling in the extremities
- Weakness
The FDA has not issued any formal warnings or advisories regarding zinc-containing denture adhesives. There has been, however, some discussion about placing a “black box” warning on zinc-containing adhesives, which is considered the highest warning label the FDA can issue.
Denture Cream Information
Millions of Americans wear dentures, primarily the elderly, and inadequate or non-existent warnings on the denture creams and adhesives required to hold dentures in place may be causing zinc poisoning among users. A denture cream study conducted in 2008 by Dr. Sharon P. Nations and other researchers at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center found that zinc levels in denture cream products like Fixodent and Poligrip can diminish the amount of copper in the body. According to this study, “chronic, excess zinc intake can result in copper deficiency and profound neurologic disease.” The study identified patients who wore dentures, used large or excessive amounts of denture cream, and experienced such symptoms as weakness in the hands, poor balance, cognitive decline or incontinence. The patients showed “mild neurologic improvement” after stopping their denture cream use.

Poligrip Lawsuit
Denture cream should be used as directed. If denture wearers use a tube of denture cream in a week, they are likely using more than the recommended dose and may be more at risk for health issues related to the use of denture cream. According to the denture cream study, a tube should typically last from three to ten weeks. The American Dental Association (ADA) also recommends taking your dentures out in the evening and cleaning them thoroughly and regularly. If you or someone you know may have suffered from denture cream poisoning after using denture cream, like Poligrip, Super Poligrip or Fixodent, reach out to a Poligrip lawyer or Fixodent lawyer to discuss either a Poligrip lawsuit or Fixodent lawsuit.
GlaxoSmithKline, the makers of Poligrip, voluntarily ceased manufacturing their zinc-containing products in February 2010. The company stated if used correctly, its products are safe to use; however, the company acknowledged that many consumers were experiencing adverse side effects from overusing the denture adhesives, which is why it opted to reformulate the products. The company now produces a variety of denture creams that are zinc free. Denture wearers who feel they may be suffering from symptoms associated with zinc poisoning as a result of denture cream use may want to discuss their concerns with a Poligrip lawyer or Fixodent lawyer. They may be eligible for a Poligrip lawsuit or Fixodent lawsuit.
Some denture cream users apply the recommended doses and still develop symptoms of zinc poisoning. According to the ADA, dentures should fit snugly without the use of adhesives like Fixodent, Poligrip or Super Poligrip. As a cost-saving measure, some denture wearers use zinc-containing adhesive creams to make their current pair of dentures last longer. If you have used denture adhesives to minimize costs associated with relining or replacing dentures, you may consider discussing your concerns with a Poligrip lawyer or Fixodent lawyer.
Fixodent Lawsuit
More than 30 million Americans use dentures, some of whom chose to use denture cream to help secure their dentures in place, especially when eating. Some denture creams like Poligrip, Super Poligrip and Fixodent contain or have contained zinc. Zinc can cause issues such as zinc poisoning, depletion of the minerals copper and iron or illnesses such as neuropathy. Using large amounts of denture creams that contain zinc may result in the consumption of dangerous and potentially debilitating levels of zinc.
Proctor & Gamble manufactures the zinc-containing adhesive Fixodent, and, despite continual pressure from both consumers and denture cream lawsuits, it has not issued a recall of its products, or announced plans to do so.
Denture Cream Lawsuit
Unfortunately, the FDA does not require disclosure of the potential for zinc poisoning associated with excessive use of denture creams, so many denture cream users are unaware of the link between their denture cream use and neurological problems like peripheral neuropathy. On February 18, 2010, GlaxoSmithKline issued a Consumer Advisory Warning regarding the “potential health risks associated with long term, excessive use of zinc-containing denture adhesives” and voluntary stopped making its zinc-containing denture creams.
The side effects of zinc poisoning are not limited to the brands of Fixodent, Poligrip or Super Poligrip. A denture cream lawsuit may include any denture cream that contains zinc. There are currently zinc-free denture creams from various companies available to consumers.
If you are a regular user of denture creams, you may be eligible to be a part of the denture cream lawsuit, Poligrip lawsuit or Fixodent lawsuit.
