The Motley Rice environmental law practice group represents victims of environmental hazards. From childhood lead poisoning to groundwater contamination, our attorneys seek corporate accountability for personal injury, property damage, and economic loss from negligent environmental practices.
Lead poisoning is one of the most common health problems for American children, yet it is entirely preventable, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Lead is neurotoxic and studies show that even low levels can cause permanent brain damage. Motley Rice attorneys represent children injured by lead poisoning in litigation against landlords, property owners and lead pigment manufacturers. We take pride in our long-standing relationships with nationally-known researchers who support our efforts on behalf of children.
Our environmental law attorneys also litigate on behalf of the government against the lead pigment industry. We have represented government entities in Rhode Island, California, New Jersey and New York. Our attorneys also represent the State of Oklahoma in a case against the poultry industry alleging improper disposal of chicken waste causing pollution of substantial land and water resources throughout Eastern Oklahoma, including the scenic Illinois River and Lake Tenkiller. Additionally, we have represented private and public building owners throughout the United States in asbestos property damage litigation.

Motley Rice LLC, announced a significant ruling in the New Jersey Appellate Court on August 17, 2005, that allows cities and counties throughout New Jersey to bring a public nuisance claim against the lead pigment industry.
In 2002, twenty-six New Jersey government entities sued the lead pigment industry alleging that they caused a public nuisance in the state and that the state's taxpayers have suffered unnecessary expenses for which the industry should be held liable. Defendants in the case include Sherwin Williams, Atlantic Richfield, NL Industries, Millennium Inorganic Chemicals, American Cyanamid, Cytec Industries, DuPont, and ConAgra.
The court ruled that the public nuisance lawsuit by these government entities would "foster the goal" of New Jersey's Lead Paint Statute, and that "the relief demanded in the complaint - funding future programs and compensating the municipalities for their abatement and healthcare expenses - would not interfere with the municipalities' ongoing enforcement efforts."
