Bextra
Motley Rice is committed to helping people that have been harmed by pharmaceutical drugs such as Bextra.
Like Vioxx, Bextra is a member of a new category of drugs called "COX-2 inhibitors", and has provided pain relief and anti-inflammatory effects for millions of arthritis suffers. It was also indicated for use in acute menstrual pain. The advertised advantage of this new class of drugs over the traditional non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, such as aspirin, ibuprofen and naproxen, is that there are supposedly fewer gastrointestinal problems occurring during treatment with COX-2 inhibitors. However, continuing drug studies reveal GI problems (perforations, ulcerations, and bleeds), skin conditions such as Stevens Johnson Syndrome, as well as serious and potentially deadly cardiovascular side effects.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a Public Health Advisory concerning the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug products (NSAIDs), including COX-2 selective agents such as Bextra.
The public health advisory is an interim measure, pending further review of data that continues to be collected. The FDA also announced that it is requiring evaluation of all prevention studies (studies in which healthy people are given medicine to prevent a disease or condition) that involve the COX-2 selective agents Celebrex and Bextra to ensure that adequate precautions are implemented in the studies and that local Institutional Review Boards reevaluate them in light of the new evidence that these drugs may increase the risk of heart attack and stroke.
If you have experienced specific cardiovascular events or skin reactions, such as Stevens Johnson Syndrome, you may have a case against the makers of Bextra.
