MOTLEY RICE SALUTES HOOTIE & THE BLOWFISH AND THEIR FANS AS THEY HELP PREPARE NEEDY STUDENTS FOR SCHOOL
Firm To Match Donations and Employees Provide Supplies to Local Charities
MT. PLEASANT, SC (August 15, 2005) - Motley Rice LLC, of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., one of the nation's largest plaintiffs' law firms, today announced that it has made a donation to the Hootie and the Blowfish Foundation at the third annual "Hootie and the Blowfish Homegrown Concert" on Daniel Island, South Carolina, Friday, August 12. The firm presented a check to the Foundation equaling the estimated dollar value of school supplies donated by concert attendees.
Last Fall, at the band's "Hootie & the Blowfish Homegrown Concert" in Charleston, SC, fans were asked to bring school supplies for the Charleston County School District. Supplies ranged from rulers, pencils and notebooks to book-bags, uniforms and scissors. The donations were so generous that they filled a 55-passenger school bus. This year they asked the same.
"At Motley Rice, we work hard to ensure that those in need are afforded resources and tools necessary to help ensure a better life. We see this donation as a challenge to the rest of our community to do what they can to help children and our local schools receive supplies they might not have to be fully prepared to start a new school year," stated Motley Rice co-founding attorney Joe Rice. "The members of Hootie & the Blowfish and their Foundation have done so much for so many over the years. We are honored to help support them."
In addition to this endeavor, Motley Rice also recently held an internal back-to-school supply drive. Employees raised cash and school supplies which have been donated to the Dee Norton Lowcountry Children's Center, Carolina Youth Development Center and Ashleigh Place Girls Home.
About the Concert
In 2003 Grammy Award winners Hootie & The Blowfish wanted to create an annual musical event in South Carolina aimed at helping school aged children. The end result was the creation of Hootie & The Blowfish Homegrown concert. For the past two years this event has helped provide necessary school supplies to those state schools in need. The third annual concert is scheduled for Friday, August 12th at the Family Circle Magazine Stadium on Daniel Island. Gates will open at 6:30 p.m. and the concert will start at 8:00 p.m. All ticket holders are asked to bring any school supply item to the concert, as a donation.
