MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C., (March 8, 2006) - Motley Rice LLC, one of the nation's largest plaintiff's law firms, today announced that it will host a free educational seminar to discuss elder care, neglect and abuse for those that have a loved one in a nursing home or an assisted living facility or are considering future placement. The seminar, "Caring for Those That Cared for You", will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2006 from 12:45 - 1:45 P.M. at the Black Expo in room 14 of the Charleston Area Convention Center located at 5001 Coliseum Drive, North Charleston, SC.
Topics being discussed include: how to recognize signs of emotional, verbal, physical neglect and abuse; steps one can take to prevent, report and correct neglect and abuse; and information that can assist in facility selection.
The U.S. House of Representatives, Committee on Government Reform-Minority Office states that there are nearly 17,000 nursing homes in the United States that currently care for 1.6 million residents. They also state that this figure is expected to quadruple to 6.6 million residents by 2050. Other data shows that for every one case of elder abuse, neglect, exploitation reported to authorities, approximately five go unreported. It is because of statistics such as these that Motley Rice believes it necessary to educate those that are faced with a decision about how to care for their loved ones.
