Amputation hazard leads to Graco stroller recall

On January 20, 2010, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a recall following distressing reports of injuries to children including five fingertip amputations and two fingertip lacerations.  Due to the severe danger presented by the stroller’s canopy hinges, the CPSC advises that “Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.”  Consumers are also advised to contact Graco to receive a free protective cover repair kit.

The popularity of Graco models has resulted in an estimate of sold units to exceed 1.5 million.  The models included in the recall are: Graco’s Passage™, Alano™, and Spree™ Strollers and Travel Systems.  For more information on the recall and photographs of the recalled products, visit the following website: http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml10/10115.html.
