Massey Energy Company adds new directors to board to review shareholder litigation

Massey Energy Co. has added two outside directors to the board to review the Massey Energy shareholder lawsuits in the aftermath of the Upper Big Branch mine explosion that occurred on April 5, 2010 in Montcoal, West Virginia.  

Motley Rice securities attorney Badge Humphries represents the institutional investors who filed the first such shareholder lawsuit against Massey Energy officers and directors. In comments to The Wall Street Journal, he explained that courts have questioned the effectiveness of such board committees, noting that his clients’ cases would move forward.
