Motley Rice congratulates Military Times reporter Kelly Kennedy on environmental journalism award

Motley Rice congratulates Military Times reporter Kelly Kennedy on being recognized with a John B. Oakes Award certificate of merit by The Columbia Graduate School of Journalism for excellence in environmental journalism. Kennedy has focused on the burn pit waste disposal system on U.S. military bases in Iraq and Afghanistan and has written more than two dozen stories about the health threats that these burn pits may pose to troops and those who are exposed to burn pits.

The John B. Oakes Award honors the late John B. Oakes, a former New York Times editor and renowned pioneer in environmental journalism.
