Burn Pit Locations
Numerous burn pits are addressed in the KBR Burn Pit Litigation. These pits varied in size and location, and waste was burned daily. According to the burn pit lawsuits, these facilities were allegedly to be designed, operated and maintained so as to protect the health and safety of service members and the civilian work force.
Plaintiffs allege the defendants were contracted and paid by the U.S. government to supply safe water and properly dispose of waste products on specific U.S. bases but failed to do so.
In March 2011, a joint statement was made before the House Armed Services Committee and Military Personnel Subcommittee stating that all burn pits serving more than 100 people have been closed in Iraq, and programs are in place to replace as many burn pits as possible in Afghanistan.
