Six killed after small plane breaks apart mid-air in Wisconsin

Six people were tragically killed July 2 when a small Cessna C421 plane experienced an in-flight break up over Phillips, Wis., according to news reports.

The victims on board ranged in age from 21 to 70 and were traveling from Illinois to Canada for a fishing trip. What caused the plane to break apart remains under investigation. The National Transportation Safety Board reported that the plane’s pilot discussed poor weather in the area of Catawba, Wis., shortly before the crash occurred. Authorities are still investigating weather conditions the plane may have encountered leading up to the crash, including storms that were reported in the area.

“Our thoughts remain with the families and their friends,” said Motley Rice aviation attorney Mary Schiavo.
