President of East Cooper Community Outreach (ECCO) Dawes Cook has selected Motley Rice member and practice group leader Fred Thompson to chair the organizations inaugural gifts campaign. ECCO's goal is to raise $640,000 in support of numerous programs that help people in the Lowcountry attain food, clothing, household furnishing and financial aid for rent and utility bills. ECCO also provides on-site medical and dental care, as well as helps young mothers become self sufficient through various educational programs.

"We are seeing a lot of people who are hurting in this difficult economy," Thompson said in an article published in the Daniel Island News. "This effort is absolutely essential to continue and broaden our services for those in crisis as well as to help support our growing educational efforts to assist young mothers to become independent."

Motley Rice most recently helped the organization through Project GO!, a firm-organized volunteer day during which employees dedicate a portion of their normal office hours to non-profit groups and organizations in the Charleston area. This year, Motley Rice employees helped ECCO with landscaping and repair work.

Thompson leads the medical practice group, managing the firm's litigation related to defective medical devices and harmful prescription drugs. In this role, he is currently focusing on Actos® lawsuits and pelvic mesh lawsuits.
