Glaxo ordered to pay compensation for alleged Paxil defects

GlaxoSmithKline, the world's second-biggest drugmaker, was ordered in Philadelphia court today to pay compensatory damages over claims that its antidepressant, Paxil, causes birth defects. This case marks the first time a jury has considered claims that the drug manufacturer knew Paxil caused birth defects and hid the risk in order to increase profits.
