Mesothelioma Awareness Day 2011

Monday, Sept. 26, 2011, marks national Mesothelioma Awareness Day. Championed by the Mesothelioma Awareness Research Foundation, the day honors those who continue to fight mesothelioma and commemorates those who have lost their battle with this rare form of cancer caused by asbestos exposure.

Supporters participate in coordinated campaign efforts to advocate for victims and raise funds for mesothelioma research. Volunteers also use avenues such as local government, media contacts, fundraising events and personal networks to spread the word about finding a cure for mesothelioma.

Each year, nearly 3,000 people are diagnosed with mesothelioma in the United States and Canada alone. These victims often include workers, servicemen, veterans and their loved ones who were exposed to asbestos as a result of hazardous occupational environments. To date, there is still no known cure for mesothelioma, and the average survival length following diagnosis is less than 12 months.

We are proud to support Mesothelioma Awareness Day and encourage you to get involved in the national rally for a cure. For more information on Mesothelioma Awareness Day and what you can do to promote this event in your community, visit the Meso Foundation website or contact the organization directly at info@curemeso.org.
