Family seeking answers: Only one 9/11 wrongful death case remains
On the tenth anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, The Providence Journal highlighted the only remaining wrongful death lawsuit filed in connection with the attacks. Lead trial lawyer Donald Migliori explained how the family is using the civil justice system to seek answers to the many important questions asked throughout the past decade by the public and families who lost loved ones.
Mark Bavis was a passenger on board United Airlines Flight 175, the second plane to hit the World Trade Center. His family, which chose to opt out of the federal Victim Compensation Fund, alleges that the five hijackers were able to board the flight at Boston's Logan International Airport due to gross negligence on the part of United Airlines and security firm Huntleigh USA.
Having represented the Bavis family, as well as more than 50 other families who opted out of the Fund, Migliori has witnessed firsthand the impact that the Sept. 11th terrorist attacks had and will continue to have on the victims' families, as well as the nation. He is also one of the lead lawyers in the In re Terrorist Attacks litigation filed by families seeking justice against the financial and material supporters of al-Qaeda.
"This has allowed me to truly live what I believe to be the purpose of our civil justice system, which is to give voice to an individual who has been wronged against any entity, whether it be another individual or the biggest corporation in the world, and do everything possible to make sure this doesn't happen again to another family."
