ACS National Convention: Motley Rice lawyers to debate and discuss constitutional law and public policy

Motley Rice member Nate Finch and human rights lawyer Elizabeth Smith will attend the American Constitution Society's (ACS) Annual Convention, "Democracy at Stake," being held from June 14 to June 16, 2012, at the Capital Hilton Hotel in Washington, D.C. On Friday, June 15, 2012, Finch will participate in a panel discussion to debate whether people are losing the right to a trial by jury.

After 220 years, the Constitution continues to serve as a compass for the basic rights of all Americans. Protecting this document and the rights it provides is quintessential to the Motley Rice mission. Our firm is proud to sponsor this event, which will bring together more than a thousand of our nation's judges, policymakers, academics and activists to discuss essential legal issues and develop strategies for progressive public policy. Discussion topics will include:

  • Affordable Care Act
  • Collective action rights
  • Education system
  • Future of IP protection
  • Judicial campaigns tying in to public confidence
  • Lawyers in various settings
  • Marriage laws
  • Right to trial by jury
  • State immigration laws
  • Voting rights
