Center for Victims of Torture celebrate 25th anniversary

The Center for Victims of Torture joined the international community on Saturday, June 26, 2010 in celebration of the organization's 25th anniversary. Motley Rice LLC, known for its firm stand against human rights abuses and crimes against humanity, is a proud sponsor of the celebration that that will kick off on Thursday, June 24, 2010 at the Newseum in Washington, DC.

Also the United Nations (UN) International Day in Support of Victims of Torture and the anniversary of the enactment of the UN Convention Against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment, the 25th anniversary of the Center for Victims of Torture is a time during which people across the the globe unite to speak out against torture and honor the victims and survivors of torture and other unspeakable acts against humanity.

The mission of the Center for Victims of Torture is, through training and advocacy, to help eliminate the practice of torture worldwide and educate health care providers, educators and other supporters about the devastating effects resulting from torture and war trauma. In the United States alone, there are an estimated 500,000 torture survivors, and this organization hopes to expand the number of people who can help torture victims by building communities where survivors are welcomed, nurtured and healed.

Motley Rice understand the challenges facing torture survivors and their entrance back into society and encourages the support of the Center for Victims of Torture in hopes that we can work together towards eradicating a problem affecting some of our world's most vulnerable citizens.
