Aviation attorney and former Inspector General for the U.S. Department of Transportation Mary Schiavo speaks with CNN about threats from abroad and how the United States could begin to minimize those threats. Although U.S. law requires any airline flying into the U.S. from another country to comport with U.S. rules, there may be little improvement in safety standards for those international flights until the aviation industry receives the political backing and financial support to implement and enforce those rules.
