Representing Asiana Victims: Motley Rice attorney Mary Schiavo speaks to Bloomberg TV about crash investigation

Speaking to the initial findings of the NTSB’s Investigative Hearing held on Dec. 11, 2013, Motley Rice aviation attorney and former Inspector General for the Department of Transportation Mary Schiavo discussed significant findings from the interview. Schiavo is one of the firm’s attorneys representing victims of the fatal July 2013 crash of Asiana Airlines Flight 214

“It was really astonishing that so much of the training occurred in the classroom—book learning for plane flying. They didn’t simulate this and have hands-on training,” Schiavo stated in the interview, in reference to testimony from the Asiana pilots involved in the crash.

Schiavo shared why the seat belts were not enough to protect the passengers involved in this crash from injuries as well as the issue of emergency slides, the NTSB’s “grilling” of Boeing and the plane’s warning signals. She also discussed the next steps in the investigation and likely steps toward aviation safety improvements.
