Passenger Travel Rights: Weather-related directions still come from airlines

Approximately 23.2 million people will fly during the holidays this year. Under the recently enacted Passenger Bill of Rights, this season may make for easier travels as passengers have the right to deplane after three hours of tarmac delays.

Last week, American Eagle Airlines was fined almost $1 million for violating the bill, and Jet Blue is facing an investigation under similar charges.

Under the recent bill, there are no directions involving delays and cancellations caused by weather. Motley Rice member and aviation lawyer Mary Schiavo reminds passengers that they are, however, entitled to receive a booking on the next available flight and should be compensated if they involuntarily miss their flights due to weather complications.
