Motley Rice LLC expands its New York City office with the addition of two antitrust attorneys and an office relocation from Chelsea to Midtown East. Antitrust lawyers Michael M. Buchman (CT, NY) and John A. Ioannou (NY) join the firm, further rounding out Motley Rice’s consumer fraud practice.

In an opinion issued on Sept. 30, 2013, the First Court of Appeals affirmed a lower court’s ruling and upheld the legality of two of Providence, R.I.’s city tobacco control ordinances which prohibit coupons and multi-pack discounts on tobacco products.

At Charleston City Council on Tuesday, Sept. 24, Mayor Joseph P. Riley, Jr., read a proclamation that officially declared September 26 as Mesothelioma Awareness Day in the City of Charleston, S.C. Mayor Riley also dedicated the proclamation to Motley Rice co-founder Ron Motley, a pioneer in asbestos litigation, who passed away on Aug. 22, 2013.

Hailing it as a victory in the fight against terrorism, the 9/11 Families praised the introduction of the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act (JASTA). JASTA (H.R. 3143/S.1535) was simultaneously introduced Sept. 19, 2013, in both chambers of Congress by Senator Charles E. Schumer (D-NY) and Representative Peter King (R-NY).

On Sept. 12, 2013, Motley Rice LLC was appointed co-lead counsel in <i>In re Walgreens Co. Derivative Litigation</i>, a consolidated shareholder derivative action brought by the court-appointed co-lead plaintiffs, a group of institutional investors, against the board of directors of Walgreen Co. (Walgreens).
