BP preparing for legal battles involving Gulf oil spill

An estimated 250 oil spill lawsuits have been filed against BP since the Deepwater Horizon oil spill that began on April 20, 2010, and the number of people, counties and communities trying to hire lawyers is mounting.

According to an article featured in Politics Daily by reporter David Sessions, BP initially presented volunteers, fishermen and other workers with waivers, hoping they would sign away some of their rights to sue. Given the increasing number of lawsuits, however, the oil giant has now begun to gather a team of advisors and legal experts to help them manage the impending legal battles that could potentially endure for decades.
