BP Settlement Details: Agreement filed with court for preliminary approval
On Wednesday, April 18, 2012, BP and the attorneys suing on behalf of hundreds of thousands of individuals and businesses affected by the Deepwater Horizon disaster submitted a settlement to U.S. District Judge Carl Barbier in New Orleans for approval.
Motley Rice co-founder Joseph Rice served as one of the negotiators of the settlement that was submitted to the court today and is quoted in a Bloomberg article on the BP oil spill settlement.
Judge Barbier will hold a closed-door conference on the lawsuits on May 3, 2012. Both parties have also requested a fairness hearing on Nov. 8, 2012, prior to the settlement's final approval and have asked that any trial over liability be postponed until after the hearing.
