Destiny Shippy represents victims of defective medical devices and harmful prescription drugs.

As part of Motley Rice’s medical device team, Destiny pursues justice for victims harmed by defective medical devices and pharmaceuticals through complex litigation. She is part of the team litigating cases in MDL 2974 In re: Paragard IUD Products Liability Litigation in the Northern District of Georgia. The litigation alleges women suffered serious injuries, health issues and complications because of IUD breakage. She also works for plaintiffs alleging harm caused by defective hernia mesh.

While in law school, Destiny interned with Justice Anita Earls of the North Carolina Supreme Court and Judge James Wynn of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. She also worked as a 2024 Motley Rice Summer Law Clerk, served as the Executive Editor of North Carolina Central Law Review, and was the elected President of the Civil Rights Society. Additionally, Destiny was a summer associate for a large employment and labor law firm in Raleigh, NC, where she worked with various employment law issues including Title VII, workplace violence, and wrongful termination.

While at Wofford College, Destiny distinguished herself as a three-time NCAA Division I, Southern Conference champion in track and field. Beyond athletics, she co-authored a research book evaluating the untold history of Wofford College from 1980 to 2020, contributing to the preservation and understanding of the institution’s legacy.

Destiny also emerged as a passionate advocate for menstrual equity, championing the installation of menstrual product dispensers in campus restrooms. Her initiative sought to provide free feminine hygiene products for students, faculty, and staff in order to demonstrate a commitment to dignity, health and equal opportunity. By normalizing menstruation and reducing stigma, Destiny’s advocacy helped ensure that all members of the campus community could fully participate in campus life without interruption due to lack of access to basic hygiene supplies.
