Case Overview
Joyson Safety Systems is being investigated over claims that the company’s airbag systems have defective components that may cause early or unintended deployments. These incidents may result in significant injuries to drivers and passengers. Motley Rice attorneys are available to discuss injury claims with people impacted by these potentially faulty devices.
Why are people suing Joyson Safety Systems over airbags?
Joyson Safety Systems is an American company that develops and manufactures various automotive safety systems, including Key Safety Systems ADI-D Inflators and other components for airbag systems. The inflator is the device that produces the gas necessary to fill the airbag cushion in a collision where the airbags deploy.
However, the Key Safety Systems ADI-D Inflator may have problems with its design. Design flaws have the potential to cause violent ruptures that separate the airbag module from the steering column. Issues with the ADI-D Inflator's design may also leave shrapnel in the passenger compartment.
Specifically, the 5AT propellant used in the first stage of the inflator is hygroscopic by nature. This means it will readily absorb moisture from its surrounding environment. Over time, the absorption of moisture can alter the propellant and cause the inflator to rupture during deployment.
To prevent this absorption, the inflator housing should be airtight, but that may not always be the case. Defective seals have allegedly led to moisture absorption and at least one known inflator rupture during what would otherwise be a minor event.
Motley Rice attorneys are currently investigating these issues in Joyson Safety Systems airbag inflators and suing the company on behalf of those harmed by this alleged defect.
