Statement on the release of the 28 redacted pages from the 9/11 Commission Report
By: Jodi Westbrook Flowers, Motley Rice LLC member and attorney for 9/11 Families
Late yesterday, U.S. government officials indicated that the redacted 28 pages of the Congressional 9/11 Joint Inquiry Report, which have been locked in a vault under the Capitol since December 2002, will be released imminently. This release has been long awaited by the 9/11 Families. We anticipate it will bolster the allegations Ron Motley made on behalf of the Families and survivors back in August 2002.
We believe that free access to all of the evidence is fundamental to the proper functioning of the judicial system. The government should be commended for releasing the pages as this is finally a step forward in providing transparency to the Families almost 15 years after 9/11. However, this release is just the tip of the iceberg. True transparency requires the release of a far greater body of evidence of possible Saudi involvement in the 9/11 attacks and rise of al Qaeda as well as prompt passage of the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act (JASTA).
We, along with the Families, look forward to our day in court.
