Julia Rhine represents people harmed by defective medical devices, pharmaceutical drugs and toxic chemicals contained in consumer products.

Julia is a member of the firm’s litigation team representing women who developed endometrial, ovarian, or uterine cancer following the use of chemical hair relaxers. The plaintiffs allege that the manufacturers of these products failed to conduct adequate safety testing and did not provide appropriate warnings regarding the potential health risks associated with their use.

She is also involved in litigation against numerous social media platforms, representing children and families who allege that the defendants’ platforms are defective because they are designed to maximize screen time, which can encourage addictive behavior in adolescents and result in various emotional and physical harms, including death.

Julia was a former Motley Rice law clerk where she assisted with hair relaxer litigation and other toxic exposure matters. Prior to joining Motley Rice, she gained experience in claims of negligence, false advertising, unfair and deceptive trade practices, consumer protection, wrongful termination and defective products at an North Carolina class action law firm.  She previously worked with a mass tort and catastrophic personal injury firm, leading an email investigation into a school district’s knowledge of a teacher’s alleged misconduct.

In law school, Julia was a part of the Critical Race Lawyering Civil Rights Clinic, where she represented clients who alleged constitutional rights violations and personal injury after being wrongfully pepper sprayed by the police at a civil rights demonstration. She served as Content Editor for the North Carolina Civil Rights Law Review, where her article Old Gills Breathe New Life: A Recent Fish Protection Case Constitutionalized North Carolina Citizens’ Environmental Rights was published in 2025. Julia also served as marketing and co-mentorship coordinator for Women in Law and communications outreach coordinator for Law Students Against Sexual and Domestic Violence.
