9/11 Families Applaud: Former U.S. Senators call for court to proceed in investigation of alleged Saudi connection to 9/11
The 9/11 Families United to Bankrupt Terrorism issued a statement today in support of former Senators Bob Graham (FL) and Bob Kerrey (NE), who entered declarations in federal court supporting further investigation into possible connections between Saudi Arabia, the Saudi High Commission and the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
The Senators' sworn affidavits were filed as part of ongoing federal litigation, In re Terrorist Attacks, brought by more than 6,600 9/11 survivors and family members (represented by Motley Rice LLC) against numerous entities believed to have been sponsors of al Qaeda and the terrorist attacks. In November 2011, an appellate court reversed an earlier ruling that had allowed Saudi Arabia and other high profile defendants to be dismissed on an erroneous reading of U.S. foreign sovereignty law. The Senators' sworn statements contradict the Saudi defendants' claims that the government investigations had exonerated them from any involvement in the 9/11 attacks.
Both Graham and Kerrey held leadership positions in the U.S. government investigations into the events of Sept.11, 2011. Graham co-chaired the joint 2002 Congressional Inquiry into the attacks. Kerrey, who became a candidate for the U.S. Senate in Nebraska on Feb. 29. 2012, served on the 9/11 Commission.
