Chemical Plant Fire: Industrial fire erupts near Dallas

A massive industrial fire has consumed the Magnablend, Inc., plant in Waxahachie, Tex., requiring all available firefighters to be called to the scene. Fire officials have warned that the fire, which CNN reports began at approximately 10:30 a.m., may be emitting potentially toxic fumes and smoke. The cause of the fire is currently unknown.

The Ellis County campus of Navarro College, Wedgeworth Elementary School, an apartment building and other industrial sites within an eight-block radius have been evacuated.

Magnablend, Inc., a chemical plant that mixes and packages chemicals for other companies, has three facilities in Waxahachie. The facility on fire is the central facility on U.S. 287 just east of Interstate 35E, and traffic has been shut down in the surrounding area.

No injuries have been reported, but authorities have asked residents to stay inside to avoid potentially hazardous gases that may be released into the air.
