The Safety Report: Motley Rice member published in latest edition
Motley Rice member and Topamax lawyer Kimberly Barone Baden's article entitled "Topamax: Headache Relief & Heartache" was featured in the summer issue of The Safety Report. The mission of this magazine, published by Injury Board, is to promote education and awareness relating to consumer safety.
Baden's article discusses the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) recent reclassification of the migraine and epilepsy medication, Topamax, from a Pregnancy Category C to a Pregnancy Category D based on data showing the drug may harm unborn babies. A 2008 study published in the medical journal Neurology found that women who took Topamax during early pregnancy may be approximately 14 times more likely to have a baby born with a genital defect and 11 times more likely to have a baby born with a cleft lip or palate.
