2011 Leadership Award: Ron Motley honored by SC Lawyers Weekly
Motley Rice is proud to announce that co-founder Ron Motley has been honored by South Carolina Lawyers Weekly with its 2011 Leadership in Law Award.
This award is bestowed annually to a select few within the legal community who, through their local involvement and professional accomplishments, have consistently worked to better the legal profession. The 2011 Leadership in Law Award will be presented on Thursday, March 24, 2011.
"Ron has dedicated more than 30 years to the pursuit of justice, fighting despite all odds on behalf of victims of corporate malfeasance and passionately advocating for causes close to his heart," said Motley Rice co-founder Joe Rice. "His efforts over the past several decades have not only affected thousands of individuals at home and abroad, but they have also influenced significant societal changes throughout our nation's civil justice system that continue to endure today."
Motley first garnered global recognition in the legal profession for his pioneering work taking on both the asbestos and tobacco industries. He has since committed his career to fighting for victims of negligence and wrongdoing, establishing in his native South Carolina one of the nation's largest plaintiffs' litigation firms and continuing to pursue challenging complex civil litigation against often powerful defendants, including the alleged financiers of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
He is the recipient of numerous honors for his contributions to the pursuit of justice and his community. The American Association for Justice (AAJ) awarded him with its Harry M. Philo Trial Lawyer of the Year Award and David S. Shrager President's Award, as well as its highest honor, the Lifetime Achievement Award. Motley was also awarded the National Association of Attorneys General's President's Award for his achievements on behalf of public health and safety. He is a member of several professional organizations and the founder of the Mark Elliot Motley Foundation, a nonprofit whose mission is to help children and young adults throughout South Carolina communities.
