Anne McGinness Kearse Named a 2018 Compleat Lawyer by University of South Carolina School of Law
Motley Rice is proud to announce that the University of South Carolina (USC) School of Law Alumni Council named Motley Rice member attorney Anne McGinness Kearse as a 2018 Compleat Lawyer.
The Council established the Compleat Lawyer Awards in 1992 to recognize alumni for outstanding civic and professional accomplishments. Anne was chosen as a 2018 recipient for her significant contributions to the legal profession and for exemplifying the highest standards of professional competence, ethics and integrity.
“Since Anne’s early days working with attorneys with Motley Rice, including Ron Motley, my late friend and Motley Rice co-founder, she’s impressed me with her quick wit, fierce intelligence, strong presence and seemingly inexhaustible drive and passion for justice,” said Motley Rice co-founder Joe Rice. “As a trial lawyer and an executive leader at Motley Rice, she helps to set the tone and drive for others in fulfilling our mission to further Causes, Not Just Cases®.”
Anne graduated summa cum laude from USC School of Law with the Class of 1998 and has since focused her practice on representing individuals in complex civil litigation while at the same time maintaining her focus on social justice. By doing so she brings both her courtroom and negotiation skills to the forefront in her representation of people in a range of practice areas, including clients suffering from injuries related to toxic chemical exposures, occupational disease, including asbestos exposure, catastrophic injury and other life-altering and traumatic injuries. Her diverse skill set enhances her ability to promote safer products, safer work places and safer living environments.
“I am honored to be recognized by my alma mater with the Compleat Lawyer Award.” said Anne McGinness Kearse. “Many of whom I have looked up to and who have been my mentors, including Joe Rice, have received this award in prior years. It is such an honor to be among their company.”
Outside the courtroom, Anne holds many leadership roles within the firm and several national organizations, including being the immediate past president for Public Justice, a foundation for which she has been on the Board of Directors since 2010. Public Justice is a national nonprofit legal advocacy agency that works to protect consumers, employees, civil rights and the environment. Anne served for many years as Chair for the American Association for Justice’s Asbestos Litigation Group, and serves on the Executive Committee for the AAJ Section on Toxic, Environmental and Pharmaceutical Torts committee. She is also on the South Carolina Association for Justice Board of Governors, a founding member of Charleston Legal Access and member of the American Inns of Court, James L. Petigru Chapter.
Anne will receive and celebrate the 2018 Compleat Lawyer Award at the ceremony on Thursday, April 19, 2018, along with the other 2018 honorees.
