Burn pit registry ordered by new law passed in the House
On Friday, May 28, 2010, the U.S. House of Representatives passed language that directs the Secretary of Defense to report on the possibility of creating an active registry for service members and veterans who have been exposed to occupational and environmental hazards, including burn pits. This language was passed as part of the Fiscal Year 2011 National Defense Authorization Act (FY11 NDAA) and is based on the Military Personnel Toxic Exposure Registry Act that was introduced by Congressman Tim Bishop of the 1st District of New York and Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter of New Hampshire's 1st District.
