The SEC announced Tuesday that it will pay its first award under a new whistleblower program created under the 2010 Dodd-Frank Act. The 2010 Dodd-Frank Act authorized the whistleblower program to reward people who offer high-quality, original information that leads to an SEC enforcement action in which more than $1 million in sanctions is ordered.

Veterans who have been diagnosed with constrictive bronchiolitis can now be put on the fast track to receive health benefits. The Social Security Administration updated its "compassionate allowances" list (CAL), effective August 11, 2012, to include this rare lung disease that is found in many veterans who were recently exposed to burn pits on military bases in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Recent charges brought by the Federal Trade Commission show that technology has allowed criminals to hide behind phones and computer screens in places such as Pakistan and India, badgering Americans to pay up on an overdue debt. Many of the debt agencies looking to collect do not exist. And neither do the debts. Criminals scour the internet looking for personal information, or looking to steal it, and then attempt to trick victims into paying money they do not owe.
