Motley Rice Appoints Two New Connecticut Members
Motley Rice LLC, one of the nation’s largest plaintiffs’ firms, is proud to announce that two of its Connecticut-based attorneys, Mathew P. Jasinski (CT, NY) and Michael J. Pendell (CT, NY), have been promoted to member.
“Each of these attorneys was chosen for membership based on their knowledge, experience and commitment to seeking justice for our clients,” said Motley Rice co-founder Joe Rice. “I look forward to working with this talented group as they continue to grow and be part of leading our firm into the future.”
Mathew Jasinski advocates for consumers, businesses, and government entities in complex class actions related to consumer protection, unfair trade practices, commercial, environmental and securities litigations, in addition to representing whistleblowers and serving the firm’s appellate group in state and federal courts. Mathew represents whistleblowers involving the False Claims Act, including in litigation filed against Afognak Native Corp., that alleged regulatory violations related to the Small Business Administration. He also led the litigation team that obtained an arbitration award in a case involving secondary liability for an investment advisor’s conduct under the Uniform Securities Act. He practiced commercial and business litigation at a large defense firm prior to joining Motley Rice in 2009. A graduate of the University of Connecticut with a J.D. from the University of Connecticut School of Law, Mathew served as executive editor of the Connecticut Law Review and began his career as a law clerk for Justice David M. Borden (ret.) of the Connecticut Supreme Court, in addition to other honors.
Michael Pendell represents people and institutions affected by corporate wrongdoing, including representing whistleblowers, as well as people harmed by tobacco and dangerous pelvic mesh devices. He also represents pension fund trustees and other institutional investors in securities, consumer fraud and other complex class actions. Michael currently serves as trial counsel in the Engle-progeny litigation in Florida for smokers and families of deceased smokers against tobacco manufacturers, in addition to representing women in transvaginal mesh litigation. He played a central role on the litigation team that obtained an arbitration award in a case involving secondary liability for an investment advisor’s conduct under the Uniform Securities Act. Michael also represents whistleblowers in multiple cases involving the False Claims Act, including litigation filed against Afognak Native Corp., alleging regulatory violations related to the Small Business Administration. A graduate of Emerson College with a J.D. from Albany Law School, Michael served as a legal intern for the Honorable Randolph F. Treece of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York and as a law clerk for the Major Felony Unit of the Albany County District Attorney’s Office. He served as the executive editor for the New York State Bar Association Government Law & Policy Journal and senior editor for the Albany Law Review.
