Pelvic Mesh Symposium: Motley Rice lawyer to speak at AUGS 32nd Annual Scientific Meeting

Motley Rice medical device lawyer Jonathan Orent will participate in the Vaginal Mesh and Informed Consent Symposium being held as part of the American Urogynecologic Society (AUGS) 32nd Annual Scientific Meeting on Thursday, Sept. 15, 2011, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Providence, R.I., at the Rhode Island Convention Center. The event will be attended by numerous physicians, nurses, physical therapists, students, researchers, educators and other professionals interested in female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery.

Orent currently represents clients allegedly harmed by transvaginal mesh/sling products in hundreds of filed cases against such large corporations as Boston Scientific, American Medical Systems, Inc., and Johnson & Johnson. He will share his insight on how medical professionals can better inform and educate their patients about the use of pelvic (vaginal) mesh and slings from a legal standpoint.  He will also address how they can best obtain and document consent from patients.

This educational symposium will additionally address:

• The history of vaginal mesh in the United States
• 510 predicate processes
• The history of informed consent
• Ethical principles of informed consent and the difference between physician-based vs. patient-based
• Discussions and documentation from a surgical standpoint
